3 Mates on a mission.

Not Elton, Peter, and Freddie, but Rob, Louis, and Daniel.

TOAST was founded by three friends -Rob, Louis, and Daniel- with a passion to create an independent British coffee chain. The 3 friends decided that it was time to break the “cookie cutter mould” of what a coffee chain was and to be the example of what’s possible when you choose to do the right thing.

With branches in Braintree, Chelmsford, Sudbury, Witham and Colchester, TOAST are proud supporters of local, working with local suppliers, producers and farmers to supply us with the freshest and highest-quality ingredients for your toasties and sandwiches.

We also understand that coffee and the power of TOAST can make positive change too, which is why we’re committed to doing our bit for the environment, using 100% compostable paper cups and ensuring that none of our waste goes to landfill, including our coffee grounds (they are turned into plant power!).

We’re British through and through, right down to our breadcrumbs. We’re not backed by a large corporation or a multi-national brand. It’s just us.

We thank you for your support.
Love, TOAST

What makes us different?

TOAST

LEADING THE WAY.

Our takeaway paper cups are 100% recyclable, 100% compostable and 100% sustainable.

Not only can our takeaway paper cups be recycled with paper or mixed recycling, but they can also be composted at home. Simply pop one into your home-compost bin and in a few weeks the cup will harmlessly biodegrade. Our cups, which are made from sustainably sourced cardboard, biodegrade at roughly the same rate as a sheet of paper. They're an excellent addition to your compost bin, helping to soak up excess moisture and aiding aeration.

We pride ourselves on leading the way, in more ways than one. In addition to using 100% recyclable paper cups, we also have a wide range of reusable options, including keep cups and travel mugs, rewarding the use of these cups, with a discount off your drink (50p if it’s a TOAST one!).

On days when you would like to sit and savour your drink in store, you’ll find ceramic mugs and cups in all our coffee houses too.

doing the right thing.

Absolutely nothing from our coffee houses goes to landfill. Not even a crumb. All our waste is either recycled, turned into energy, or transformed into a new product.

We’ve teamed up with a local waste management company who share our passion for recycling. Green Recycling uses cutting edge technology that enables them to recycle over 85% of all our waste from all our coffee houses. The other 15% is turned into fuel that can be used to generate heat and power energy.

Even our coffee grounds get another lease of life too. This precious resource is gathered from all our coffee houses and used as fertiliser to help plants and flowers grow at local artisan flower grower in Sudbury.

Supporting local.

We seek out the best producers and suppliers, shying away from big corporations and conglomerates, instead supporting other independent and local businesses.

Our crisps come from Fairfields Farm Crisps, local farmers supply our sausages & bacon, and a local patisserie chef crafts mouth-watering bakes and cakes for us (which never last long!)

This leads to creating a menu of mouth-watering snacks and treats, using ingredients of the highest quality and traceability.

Working with local suppliers is a key ethic of TOAST, striving to build long-term relationship and support others.

Giving back.

We’re proud supporters of our local communities and organisations helping those in need. For every coffee we serve, we donate a coffee to those who need it most. It’s our way of supporting the communities, charities, and organisations who work tirelessly to help others. It’s our way of giving back.
